EDC of Sarasota County appoints executive vice president

SARASOTA (June 7, 2010) – Ron Maloney, a 10-year veteran of economic development, has joined the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County (EDC) as executive vice president, according to Kathy Baylis, EDC president and CEO.

“Through our national search to for this position, we identified Ron as a dynamic and highly experienced economic developer whose strong leadership and business development skills will help us reach out more effectively to companies that will bring good jobs to Sarasota County,” said Baylis.

At the EDC, Maloney will be responsible for business development, including recruiting and retaining businesses and pursuing international trade opportunities. Maloney relocated to Sarasota from Pittsburgh where he was president and CEO of Dynamic Impact Consulting Inc., a firm helping businesses prepare for and sustain growth in international markets through strategic planning and focused execution.

Prior to starting Dynamic Impact Consulting, Maloney served as vice president of business development and vice president of global marketing for the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, an affiliate of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. In those capacities, he assisted more than 400 companies from around the world to expand or establish new operations, enter new markets, form strategic relationships and develop new business. Maloney also has advised U.S. and international state and local governments on the development and execution of mutually beneficial business partnerships between cities and regions, as well as promoting foreign-direct investment, trade development and export assistance programs.

Previously, Maloney assisted the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to improve its underperforming Southwest Regional Export Network (REN), which became the third most productive REN statewide within 24 months. Additionally, he helped the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania establish an authorized trade representative office in Russia to provide hands-on assistance to exporting companies within the state. He has also worked with the cities of Saitama and Kitakyushu, Japan to develop targeted trade and investment partnerships, and has been a featured speaker at international conferences in Japan and South Korea.

Maloney’s previous experience includes establishing and operating a real estate practice specializing in executive-level employee relocation. He also founded and managed a software publishing company.
